On the occasion of the anniversary of the launching of Battleship HS G.AVEROF (12 March 1910), the historic ship opens today to visitors one of its most distinctive spaces: the Officers’ Wardroom. A space that reveals not only the daily life of the ship’s officers, but also the way the character of naval leadership was shaped.

Here, officers exchanged ideas, held discussions and studied. In the wardroom’s small library one could find works by Spinoza, Victor Hugo, Tolstoy and Aristophanes. For those called to serve in times of responsibility understood that strength is not born only from training and discipline, but also from the cultivation of intellect and character.

The Officers’ Wardroom remains to this day a symbolic space. A place where history does not remain in the past, but becomes continuity. It is no coincidence that this same space still hosts the Hellenic Navy’s Supreme Naval Council during the renewal of its composition. A silent reminder that the responsibility of command passes from generation to generation.

Today, 15th of March, visitors have the opportunity to pass through this historic space and discover a lesser-known yet essential side of AVEROF that of human core.

Visits take place through controlled passage, according to the instructions of the staff.

Photography inside the Officers’ Wardroom is not permitted.

Because the strength of a ship lies not only in her steel,
but in the spirit of the people who manned her.
