Τhe New Generation of the Armed Forces on the Deck of “G. AVEROF”

7
On 30 September and 2 October 2026, the Naval Museum Battleship “G. AVEROF” had the pleasure of welcoming, over two visits, the cadets of the Hellenic Air Force NCO Academy (SMYA), young people who have chosen to serve in the Armed Forces.
Aboard “AVEROF”, history is all around you, on the deck, in the gun turrets and around the guns, in the spaces where generations of sailors lived and served, and in the images and traces of an era that shaped the course of Greece.
Every part of the ship has a story to tell and, above all, something to pass on to younger generations.
This is one of the most important missions of “AVEROF” today.
To remain a living place of education, historical memory and values, bringing the new generation of the Armed Forces closer to the meaning of duty, responsibility, discipline, teamwork and service. A place that helps shape people.
Welcoming the SMYA cadets aboard “AVEROF” on these two visits gives us particular pleasure and strengthens our desire to welcome more and more cadets from Greece’s Military Academies. To walk her decks, discover her history and carry with them something of the legacy of those who served aboard her.
Because “AVEROF” continues to serve. Today, she serves memory, education and the generations to come.
