Battleship “G. AVEROF” Naval Museum announces the completion of the official reception process of the historic Submarine “PROTEUS” (S-113), which now becomes part of the Maritime Heritage Park “ODYSSEUS – The Greeks and the Sea”.

A new chapter of naval memory and immersive historical experience is now opening to the public.

Submarine “PROTEUS”, representative of Greece’s undersea naval power and of a particularly important period in the modern history of the Hellenic Navy, is now presented to visitors as a living space of historical knowledge, naval tradition and human experience.

Alongside Battleship “G. AVEROF”, symbol of visible naval power, Submarine “PROTEUS” brings to light the unseen and silent imprint of Greek naval presence beneath the surface of the sea.

As part of the International Museum Day, on Monday, 18 May 2026, the public will have the opportunity to visit Submarine “PROTEUS” free of charge for the very first time through a special open-access day with controlled visitor flow.

It is noted that, although Battleship “G. AVEROF” Naval Museum normally remains closed to the public every Monday, on this particular day only the area of Submarine “PROTEUS” will exceptionally remain open, marking its first official presentation and integration into the Maritime Heritage Park “ODYSSEUS – The Greeks and the Sea”.

Before entering the submarine, visitors will have the opportunity to explore the surrounding area and discover, through specially designed informational panels and visual material, the operation, history, systems and daily life aboard a Hellenic Navy submarine.

Visits aboard the submarine will take place through a continuous controlled flow and without organized guided tours, allowing as many visitors as possible to gain a first immersive experience of the submarine and its history.

From 19 May until 5 June 2026, access to Submarine “PROTEUS” will be available exclusively through the admission ticket of Battleship “G. AVEROF” Naval Museum and under controlled visitor flow, within the framework of free self-guided exploration aboard the submarine.

During this period, visitors will be able to discover the history and atmosphere of Submarine “PROTEUS” through specially prepared informational material and the overall Maritime Heritage experience.

The public will be informed through a new announcement regarding the full implementation of the organized guided experience and the future operational framework of Submarine “PROTEUS”.

Submarine “PROTEUS” is not simply a museum exhibit.

It is a living space of naval memory, dedicated to the men who served aboard Hellenic Navy submarines, to their silent mission beneath the sea, and to the timeless relationship between the Greeks and the maritime world.

Beside AVEROF, the invisible past rises once again.
